Hanabi (pronounced haNAbi) is a lager brewing project, born from a winemaking life and a passion for building things with their hands. These ‘grain-forward lagers’, are the brainchild of a husband-and-wife team, Nick Gislason and Jennifer Angelosante. They’ve been in the wine industry for decades; Nick is currently the head winemaker at Screaming Eagle and Jennifer, most recently, a viticulturist for Silverado Farming Company and a wine journalist. They’ve both been brewing beer since before they were legal. This beer features an heirloom grain variety named Haná that was originally used to brew the world’s first Pilsner. Brought back from near extinction by British farmers, they source it from one of the only fields in the world where it can be found today, in Norfolk, England. This Haná Pilsner is the rhythm section of their brewery and is produced year-round. It represents the core of their house approach and style. Presented as a Pilsner style lager, this heritage barley brings aromatic notes of fresh wholegrain bread, nori, and dried spearmint, along with a long, fresh finish.
