There’s been a sea change in public perceptions of St. Aubin over the past decade. Saint Aubin was once considered a lesser terroir – merely a curious corner of Burgundy. But nowadays, St. Aubin is getting its rightful due thanks to a few key producers who’ve taken the terroirs of St. Aubin to new heights. Domaine Larue is one such producer, and their Murgers des Dents de Chien 1er cru comes from five south-facing parcels in this very special 1er Cru at the southern end of St. Aubin near the Puligny border and just above the fabled Le Montrachet vineyard. 'Murgers des Dents de Chien' translates to 'walls of dogs teeth,' referring to the jagged white rocks which form the borders around this vineyard - a unique landmark that sets this special terroir apart. It sits between 60 and 200 feet directly above Chevalier-Montrachet. Picture a brighter, higher-altitude version of this storied grand cru! The star of the Larue stable, this is a real thoroughbred that one should classify along with the great 1er crus of Chassagne and Puligny. We highly recommend these for any white Burgundy lover who still wishes to find value in an invaluable region.
